The 52nd Annual Meeting of the Foundation

The 52nd Annual Meeting of the Foundation is planned for Saturday, June 14, 2008, in Lynchburg, Virginia. The meeting will coincide with the 24th annual Batteau Festival, an eight day long colorful event that recreates the commercial trade on the James River via replicated bateaux.

The Annual Meeting will consist of a business meeting, a hearty brunch, and a presentation in the newly-opened Craddock-Terry Hotel & Event Center in Lynchburg. William Scott Breckinridge Smith will give a presentation on the Cabell family's involvement in 18th and early 19th century navigation on the James River.

Following the meeting, attendees can walk to the James River to watch the departure of over a dozen bateaux on their week-long trip to Maiden's Landing near Richmond. Attendees can also visit Dr. and Mrs. George Cabell's Point of Honor (c.1815) for a tour of the house and refreshments in the Carriage House.
